Calgary Bull Sale Cattle Dog Sale and Trial - Report
The trial was held on March 5, 2008 in the Big Top tent at Stampede Park in
Calgary. The weather was nice and there was good spectator turn out.
We had 21 dogs from three provinces competing. There were two qualifying runs for the top five
final.
The finalists were Elvin Kopp and Cody, Milton Scott and Ben, Shawna
Burton and Kate, Danae Frew and Bram, and Wendy Schmaltz and Fly.
The cattle were tough the first go out. With some changes for the second go we had much
improved scores. In the first go Shawna Burton with Kate was first with 29
points and Jim Swanson was second with 24 points. The second go had Milton
Scott first with 33 points and the only team to record a perfect score. Second
was Sam Walters with Bill with 31 points.
Shawna Burton and Kate were aggregate
champions with 59 points finishing 12 points ahead of everyone else.
Wendy Schmaltz and Fly were first in the finals followed by Milton Scott
and Ben. Danae Frew and Bram were third.
I would like to thank the following for donating their time: Our judge - George
Stambulic; clerk Louanne Twa; announcer Russ Finlay; the two fellows who set
cattle all night; Sharon Yeast and the Alberta Cattle Breeders for inviting us
to be part of the show and sale; and Chris and Wendy Schmaltz for supplying the
cattle.
I would also like to thank Dale Clearwater, Dale Montgomery, and Chris Schmaltz
for contributing dogs to the sale. Dale Clearwater had the high-selling dog. It was bought by Milton Scott of Airdrie AB for $2,800. (Thanks Milton).
Thanks to everyone who came and made the 3rd Annual Cattle trial a success I
hope to see you all next year. We will be having another dog sale next year so
if anyone is interested please contact me. Thanks.
